My favorite messenger bags, homey this is for you!

The messenger bag has been around for way over a century.

The first messenger bags were used to carry mail by postmen. Postmen messenger bags were made of leather and worn over the shoulder or cross body to help balancing the weight of the heavy loads. Below an original French vintage postmen messenger bag, available at Etsy.

During the World War II the messenger bags were used by the dispatch riders that carried orders or messages to a specific destination. The dispatch riders’ bags were made of canvas and closed with a large flap.

The messenger bag was then adopted by many different people for a variety of purposes. If you hit the streets of New York, London and San Francisco, you will find cycle dispatchers wearing them to carry goods for their deliveries.

Saying that…below my top five messenger bags (strange enough, I just realized that they are all made in USA).

1. Filson Harvey Messenger Bag

2. Filson Dry Roll Top Messenger Bag

3. Archival Roll Top Messenger Bag

4. Will Wax Coated Canvas Messenger Bag

5. As a fifth bag…I would like to suggest you a few web sites where you can find the iconic biker messenger bags from San Francisco!

Very difficult to pick up one!

PS: Steph I might have found yours:-). Check it out!
