Ben Viapiana, an Italian denim craftsman in Bankok

I have been meaning to write a post about Ben Viapiana for a few weeks. I came across his fantastic work on Instagram (

Born in Canada, when Ben was a teenager, his father, an Italian tailor, never liked him wearing lowriding jeans. One day he gave Ben an ultimatum: “If you can make them, you can wear them.” Since then Ben has been making bespoke denim.

In 2007 Ben went to Thailand for a vacation and thought Bankok was the ideal location to set up his workshop.

All the jeans are entirely hand-made, piece by piece by Ben, sitting behind his old-school, century-old machines. Crafting denim is an art for him. “Production of my work is the most important aspect that I’m concerned with. Every technique that I use has its specific purpose”.

Ben’s business model doesn’t involve advertising or marketing, a part from his website. Order a denim is quite simple: you choose the fit, type and weight of denim, stitch color, button fly or zipper, custom details like patches, as well as button and rivet colors.

In about two weeks you will be delivered your unique, one of a kind pair of jeans, hand-made by Ben, specifically for you.

If you plan to be in Bankok for vacation, below Ben’s workshop address.
